Bogoyavlenskaya D.B .(2010). Giftedness: the answer one and a half centuries later . The Moscow University Psychology Bulletin, 3, 3-17

The article puts special emphasis on the necessity of giving a scientifically grounded definition to such a concept as «giftedness». By taking a retrospective look on the problem the author reveals reasons why the perception of giftedness as «intellect above average» is so widespread. Determining a unit of analysis of giftedness (i.e. ability to develop activity on one’s own initiative) and creating a method for its measurement («systematic observation») made it possible to realize F. galton’s concept of giftedness.

Alexandrov Yu.I., Alexandrova N.L.(2010).Complementarity of culturespecific types of cognition (the end) . Moscow University Psychology Bulletin, 3, 18-35

The phenomenon of cultural specificity of the types of cognition — the everyday and scientific ones — is discussed in the present work in the frame of systemic approach. The discussion highlights the features of the Russian science. The analogies between the stages of an individual act of cognition, on the one hand, and cognition process at the level of world science, on the other hand, are considered. It is assumed that the interaction between different “local” sciences takes form of the mutual CO-operation aimed at achieving of global result — the development of world science.

Pankratova A.A.(2010). Emotional intelligence: possibility to improve Mayer—Salovey—Caruso’s model and test . The Moscow University Psychology Bulletin, 3, 52-64

The basic theories of emotional intelligence and two alternative approaches to its assessment are considered in this article. The advantage of the ability model (J.D. Mayer, P. Salovey, D.r. Caruso) before mixed models (D. goleman and r. Bar-On) and also the advantage of performance-based measures as a method of emotional intelligence assessment in comparison to self-report measures are proved. The critical analysis of MSCEiT tasks from the point of view of its consistency with the emotional intelligence concept, with the ability model and with the theory of emotions is carried out. The conclusion is made about that it is possible to reduce the model structure to three abilities — recognition of emotions, understanding of the reasons of emotions, management of emotions. The directions of test improvement are discussed: developing tasks basing on a certain range of emotions and cognitive theory of emotions, as well as changing the tasks presentation form to video situations.

Pogozhina I.N.(2010). Preservation principle formation at preschool children through formation of classification and ranking logic operations structures. The Moscow University Psychology Bulletin, 3, 65-75

The aim of experimental study is testing of the possibility and efficiency of conservation understanding formation in preschool children through the formation of their logical operations of classification and seriation. New training methods of classification and seriation were developed. They are based on the mastery of the actions belonging to the composition and structure of the data logic operations. Parallel formation of logical operations of classification and seriation using these new techniques allowed the subject not only to master these logic operations in a full, but also let the children overcome nonconservation phenomena. The possibility of formation of some concrete-operational structures of intelligence (understanding of the conservation principle) through other specific-operational structures of intelligence (the composition and structure of logical operations of classification and seriation) was proved for the first time.

Pchelinova V.V.(2010). Formation of psychologist’s labor world pattern on the basis of the descriptor dictionary codes. The Moscow University Psychology Bulletin, 3, 76-87

The paper presents the descriptor dictionary of 53-letter-numeric codes (DC). DC was used for empirical study of formation of occupational and labor world pictures by psychologists. DC constitutes the integrated picture of the labor world using such categories of analysis as objects, aims, tools and conditions of labor. Six psychologists classified 2298 occupations using DC. The data analysis showed that all of DC category features were present in psychologists’ minds. Each psychologist appeared to have a unique combination of them called an individual picture of labor world. The most difference in the pictures formed by the psychologists’ was observed in their labor typologies and in the way they clustered labor tools. The individual choices of clusters of aims and clusters of conditions of work demonstrated similarity.

Petrenko V. F.(2010).let’s return consciousness to psychology! The Moscow University Psychology Bulletin, 3, 121-141

Purpose of this polemical article is author’s aim to view problem of consciousness (it’s history begins from the Classic greek, indian and Chinese philosophy, it has several thousands years history) in wide context of contemporary physics and semiotics. lack of significant advances in contemporary psychological science in the studying of consciousness demands, in our opinion, both philosophical, methodological bases of this problem and conceptual frameworks of this area. On the material of altered states of consciousness we study interpretation of consciousness as secondary perception in a sign form (what rises up to hegel) or interpretation consciousness as system of a meanings which is mediates world view (l. vygotsky, a. leontiev, a. luria).

The article presents g. gonzalez’s integrative model of alcohol and drug abuse prevention on campus. This theoretical structure bases on models such as health belief model, social learning theory and problem behavior theory. it focuses on different elements — the individual level, the level of the environment and the level of interaction between the individual and the environment. we present concrete activities included in the integrative model, analyze the effectiveness of preventive programs among university students and the experience of using the model at the University of Florida. gonzalez’s model can be used to assess the effectiveness of prevention programs.
